Wireless Carriers: Getting The Best Reception

June 26th, 2009 -- Posted in Tips | No Comments »

A cell phone is only as good as the carrier that provides the signal. One could easily devote as much time to researching call plans and call reception as they could to choosing cell phones. Finding good data on this can be difficult, as choosing a wireless carrier involves analyzing so many variables that many online review sites wont even touch the subject.

According to J.D. Power and Associates, the quality of cell phone services has reached such a high standard across the board that there was no longer a reason to own a traditional phone line anymore. Yet nothing can be more confusing than statistics. According to comScore Networks, a whopping one in four cell phone customers are not satisfied with their wireless carrier. With such an astonishingly large statistic, its clear that cell phone signal technology is still in its adolescence. Ask any of your friends about cell phone reception horror stories and theyll have plenty of fireside tales to tell you. J.D. Power and Associates also asserts that call carrier customers who did not have their complaints resolved by customer service were six times more likely to switch carriers. But heres the rub: If one isnt satisfied with ones cell phone, its easy enough to get another one. But dropping a cell phone carrier is another matter. The advent of phone carrier contracts with cancellation penalty fees has largely come about to combat cell phone carrier dissatisfaction . Even the advent of 3G Networks, which was announced with great fanfare, still hasnt quelled a considerable percentage of cell phone customers that are not happy with their carriers. The following is brief rundown of which carriers rank best.

ComScore says that Verizon Wireless is best in terms of coverage and service, and consistently so. Being rated the best carrier over and over again. And that only about 6% of their customers break their contract.

After Verizon, AT&T comes in at the number two spot. Alltel contract breakers are higher at 9%. Sprint/Nextel comes in at 11% and at the bottom with a high ratio of customers that are breaking their contracts at 15% is T-Mobile.

The above comScore survey is not location specific and uses the percentage of customers breaking the service contract as the main determinant for popularity. A J.D. Power and Associates survey does confirm Verizon as the leader, but adds that this is particularly true in the Northeast, where Verizons coverage is the strongest. T-Mobile, with the lowest rating in the comScore survey, actually ranked first in the Southwest, according to JD Power. Moreover, Verizon also ranks lower in terms of the phones that run its service, which tend to use CDMA technology rather than GSM. As a result, Verizon phones tend to not accept SIM cards (Subscriber Identity Modules) which prevents their use when travelling overseas. Verizons rates also ranked as considerably more expensive than its rivals, and though its customer service gets high marks, its bills tend to be confusing to read.

Sprint is also very popular in the Southwest, according to J.D. Powers and Associates. But J.D. Powers and Associates also concedes that Sprint ranks lowest in call quality. The PcMagazime survey also confirms that Sprint ranks lowest in call quality. The PCMagazine survey also gave T-Mobile a rank as the best carrier in terms of pricing. This is second to Alltel when it comes to service plan options. GSM cell phones, and a wide variety of them can be used on the T-Mobile network these GSM/SIM card compatible phones also enabe you to use the one overseas.

When is comes to prepaid cell phones, they deserve a category on their own. Virgin Mobile had the highest points, just ahead of TracFone and T-Mobile. Verizon Prepaid service as well as AT&T prepaid service follow in order of decreasing popularity, with good old Sprint/ Nextel at the bottom of the rankings.

So which carrier should you choose? Well this all depends on how many phone calls you make, what area you make them in, if you travel a lot, and which carrier offers the best phone options. Ultimately it is up to you. But doing your due diligence will help you to avoid getting into a contract you will want to break out of.

Roofing Material-Tips To Make Sure You Pick The Right One

March 16th, 2009 -- Posted in Tips | No Comments »

When choosing the roofing material for your roof, take the roofing material’s lifespan into account because this determines the overall lifespan of the roof, and that impacts long term cost.

Roofing style, materials, and the climate in the area where the home is located are amongst the factor that affect a roof’s lifespan. Selecting roofing products with nearly the same lifespans will avoid piece by piece repairs over a ten to fifteen year period. Generally, roofing materials last for about twenty years. This is if the roof has been maintained properly and there has been no significant weather damage. Some materials have a lifespan of up to 50 years while some others last only 10 years. Here are some of the common roofing materials and their lifespans.

A properly maintained asphalt roof will last between 15 and 20 years. Because of the low cost of the materials and the ease of repairs asphalt roofing materials are one of the most common types of roofing materials used throughout the nation.

Fiberglass roofing lasts between 15 and 20 years. Little maintenance is required for fiberglass roofs, and they come in many different styles and colors to match almost any desired look. Fiberglass roofs resist water and mold because they don’t have organic components.

Many homes in the northeastern portion of the nation use wooden shakes and shingles. These roofing materials will generally last for about 15 to 20 years and can even last for as many as 30 years if the shakes and shingles are well maintained.

With an average lifespan of 40 to 75 years, slate roofing materials are amongst the longest lasting roofing products.

Metal roofing can last nearly 50 years. Metal roofs come in a variety of colors, finishes and styles, and can even resemble tiles and wooden shingles. These roofing products are nearly impervious to weather and can be installed over the current roof.

Rubber roofing is a less known roofing material. It’s easy to install, to maintain, and it lasts a long time. It can be a single sheet cut to fit the roof or shingles. In 1980 the very first rubber roof was installed. It was in Wisconsin. It’s still going strong after nearly 30 years.

So you see, there are many different roofing materials each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Get Ex Back – Trust Can Be Rebuilt

February 4th, 2009 -- Posted in Tips | No Comments »

Many people believe that trust, once broken, can take a long time to rebuild, if it can even be done. However, there are some specific things you can do to rebuild trust after wronging your mate in a relationship.

The first step is to flat out accept blame. You don’t give lame excuses, you don’t argue or defend or explain that it didn’t really mean anything. You admit, for example, that you messed up and in this way: I cheated on you. This is crucial. When we’ve been wronged one of the things we want to understand is that our mate knows they did wrong. Do they understand that or do they somehow think what they did is not that big of a problem. This first step handles this for your mate, it clarifies that you aren’t going to b.s. them and will take responsibility.

That is a great start! It is entirely different from all the bs we usually get when there is a problem in a relationship. I screwed up and Im owning up to it is a very powerful thing ” if you mean it and dont keep screwing up.

Step 2 builds on this. You tell your ex that what you did caused pain, and here is the pain you believe you caused.

Your partner is hurting over what happened. So you own up to their hurt feelings as well, since you caused them! “I know I caused you pain, and left you broken hearted…”

Remarkable! Your partner has probably never heard anything like this from you before. You aren’t trying to explain yourself, you are owning that you not only did the deed but caused emotional damage to them by doing it. Wow!

Youve got to describe the pain some, using the best words you can. This is exactly what Emotional Logic sounds like. At this point, you want to make sure your ex feels like you understand him/her. You cant skip this step, even if you are a man and, like many men, arent comfortable talking about emotions. For the skill to work, your ex has to feel like you really understand the pain you caused by what you did.

When most of us say “I’m sorry!” it doesn’t work because the apology doesn’t include these two steps. Accept blame and acknowledge the pain you caused your mate. When you’ve done this, you are well on your way to rebuilding trust. There are more steps to it, but this is a great start.

Craft Show Selling

January 31st, 2009 -- Posted in Tips | No Comments »

Manning a booth at craft show is not a simple task. Sure, you can decide to end at setting up your booth, and just hope that the presentation is enough to bait customers like fish with worms. But, I must say, that attitude is similar to that of some hired, disinterested salesperson.

No, that’s not what you do once you get to a craft show. This is work, and you’ll rightly need to be up and about. The process of selling your crafts isn’t comparable to fishing; rather, it is comparable to wooing a pet to trust you. After getting their attention via your bait, you have to build up their trust by ensuring that getting the bait will be to their benefit.

So, what am I talking about? Simply put, always be on the alert for potential customers. When they go by your booth and show the slightest interest in your wares, then that is your cue. Approach them with a smile and start talking about your product.

This is one reason why it’s best if you yourself sell your own crafts. Selling something you’ve made yourself will guarantee that there’s a special bond between you and your item, and you’ll find yourself talking about it more enthusiastically. It’s much easier to convince people to buy your wares this way.

Of course, it is only fair to warn you about overdoing any of this. What should you avoid saying when talking to your customers?

*One, don’t confuse them with technical jargon. You want them to appreciate your art, not mimic it, so don’t bother them with it.

*Next, it’s not all about you. Craftsmen are admired because of their skill and quality of work, not about the person himself. And finally,

*It’s a conversation, not a speech. Ask them questions, and see what exactly piqued their interest in your work. This way you can have a dynamic conversation with them, which would lead to them being more favorably disposed to buying your product.

How to Prepare at Craft Shows

January 28th, 2009 -- Posted in Tips | No Comments »

if you decide to sell your crafts for the extra buck, you have to know how to work really hard. It’s not always sunshine in a business, even here in the Sunshine State. You’ll need to consider plenty of things, and if you don’t think it through thoroughly, you’ll end up with little to no profit from selling your wares.

So what are these factors that you need to consider? There are several, and I will attempt to outline them here;

1-Location: There are a lot of fairs and festivals in Florida on any given year. But how do you know which one to got to? Surely you can’t join them all. Thus, my advice would be to choose one near where you live. That way, you can save up on valuable transportation time and gas money.

2-Supply: Bringing a too-small stock of your creations when you go into an craft show is obviously a no-no, especially when you think highly of them. Even if they don’t sell like hotcakes, there’s still a chance of that and you’ll be dismayed when you have to close early when you run out. Better to be safe than sorry.

3-Marketing: You’ll have to promote your goods, too. Bringing fliers may help, but I advise to start with the booth first. Jazz it up a little. Maybe put a colorful cloth on your table, or a lively banner up on top. Also make sure to arrange your wares properly on the counter. Presentation does a lot when you want to attract customers to your booth.

4-Prepare: Above all, you should be able to prepare. Preparation in this case does not refer to the ones above (though they are equally important); rather, you would be wise to expect the unexpected. Weather will not always be sunny, for example. Bring large plastic sheets to protect your crafts in the event of a downpour. There are other precautions to consider, but only experience can tell you for sure.
